Metadata standards
Content held within ImageQuest is tagged using the Information Management and Retrieval System (IMARS). IMARS is custom built by Britannica to provide reliable and consistent taxonomic metadata for the large, varied and continually expanding content collections.
Currently the metadata contained within the Britannica educational databases can be accessed in a user-centric way.
Post search options
Following a search query, users are presented with a variety of options to filter their Images, including by size, orientation and collection house.
Search options
Britannica provides an Amazon 9 OpenSearch API protocol to enhance third party federated searching. This "Open Search" allows for direct querying of Britannica content through tools including EBSCO discovery.
Usage statistics
Usage statistics are offered in a COUNTER compliant format. They are available via username and password, or on request.
