The sites in general are designed to be accessible to users with screen readers in accordance with Section 508 guidelines published by the US government (alt text for images, no meaning conveyed in colour, pages can be read with stylesheets, etc). The SCM6 platform also gives users a text-size control that allows chapter text size to be controlled by the user, which is helpful for low-vision users. The sites do not currently support the z39.50 protocol.

McGraw-Hill's platforms provide a ContentShare API for libraries that wish to incorporate AccessMedicine content directly into their local search results. The ContentShare API is a search-engine-friendly data set placed in a secure location. The specifications for crawling, incorporating results, and linking directly to AccessMedicine assets from results will be provided to active subscribers on request.
MARC 21 records available for download directly on the platform.
Institutions should note that in certain clauses (such as 4.1.2, 4.1.8.5 and 4.1.8.6) the publisher has specified that the use of parts of the Licensed Material should not exceed 10% of any individual book or article. Also that only links to the Licensed Material may be included in VLEs or coursepacks (clause 4.1.8.4); and that the permission to deposit parts of the Licensed Material in the Institution's own electronic repository has been removed. There are also some extra restrictions on use of the Licensed Material at clauses 5.2.1 and 5.2.2.
We agreed to these changes to our model licence in order to secure an agreement for our members, and because we do not think they significantly inhibit use of the Licensed Material. We shall be reviewing policy when the agreement is approaching renewal. If you have any comments or queries please contact the Jisc Collections Helpdesk.
Users can create MyAccess accounts to personalise the online resource with their own saved searches, image gallery, alerting service and/or keywords. RSS feeds are also available.
APA and AMA citation available for all content.
The search engine is a tool designed for sophisticated collections of medical information. It runs in conjunction with a layer of semantic metadata that has been applied to all of the information in the website so that the content, though written by multiple authors and derived from many resources, is completely integrated and connected by these topic-based medical language tags that are compliant with the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS), developed by the National Library of Medicine (NLM).
Semantic and full-text search function is available for each platform. Boolean search terms are supported and the advanced search allows users to select the precise resources and/or content types they wish to search.
COUNTER usage statistics are available to subscribers via the online platform.
