Scopus API

The API returns Scopus data in a format that easily integrates into an application or a web site. While registration and use of the interface will be open to non-customers, Scopus customers will have access to more data.

For more information visit the Elsevier developer portal.

Current Research Information System (CRIS)

Scopus data can be used in conjunction with CRIS. The following CRIS have implemented tools to extract data from Scopus:

Options: Multi-year commitment and annual commitment for current subscribers (via quotation) and multi-year commitment and annual commitment for new subscribers (Jisc Banded). Review the licence terms for associated opt-out provision for each commitment option.

The offer: Institutions should review the offer document for full agreement terms for the annual and multi year pricing (quotes for current subscribers will be displayed below in the 'Product Content Options and Pricing' drop down, when logged in).

Publisher selection policy

The content that Scopus covers is driven by user demand. A Content Selection and Advisory Board comprised of researchers and librarians reviews new sources for inclusion. All titles that conform to academic quality norms, specifically peer-review, and are published in a timely manner are accepted for consideration. Scopus covers titles from all geographical regions including non-English titles as long as English abstracts can be provided.

If you use one of these products and have them configured correctly, you will only need to contact Scopus E-Customer Service (nlinfo@scopus.com) to have your Scopus account set up for federated search access.

Full text linking

There are a variety of flexible linking options based on your needs and resources. Scopus integrates with a library's resources in a number of ways:

  • Links to full-text can be implemented via a library's link resolver as it is compliant with the OpenURL standard
  • Links to other services within the library can be activated, such as to a library's OPAC or other (subscribed) databases
  • Document delivery and interlibrary loan can be set up so that a customised link directs users to a Web form chosen by the library

Information on how to set up OpenURL links is available.

Personalisation

Many of the features and functions available in Scopus are based on the user's personal preferences and, therefore, require a one-time registration and a per-session login.

The Register/Login box appears at the top of all pages within Scopus until you log in. Users may set up an individual password, or use their Athens password. Once logged in users may create, save and edit regular search alerts, document citation alerts and results lists under their individual profile.
