    UKPressOnline is an archive of current and historic national and regional newspapers. It includes the Daily Express (from 1900), Sunday Express (from 2000), Daily Star (from 2000), Church Times (from 1863), Daily Worker (1930-1955), Morning Star (from 1997) and the Watchman (1835-1884). It is updated with new editions daily.

Product overview

The newspaper editions are presented in the form of "as-published" pdf pages containing original images and fully searchable text. Search results are delivered as images with supporting text. Full-resolution pdfs are available for download and printout for research and display. The content is updated daily.

HE Institutions may select one or more of the following:

  • Daily Express (1900-present day). Includes Sunday Express for WWII period and 2000-present day. Daily and Sunday Star included with licences to Daily Express at no additional charge.
  • Daily Star (2000 to present day)
  • Daily Star Sunday (2002 to present day)
  • Daily Express, Daily Star and Daily Mirror Package
  • Watchman (1835-84) The Watchmand (and Wesleyan Advertiser) is the fore-runner of the Methodist Recorder)
  • Fascist Press (1930-40) includes Action, The Blackshirt and Fascist Week. All content from launch until banned
  • Daily Worker (1930-53) Morning Star 1997-present day) currently being completed
  • Church Times (1863 to present)
  • All Inclusive Complete package contains all titles and will also include any additional titles added during the licence period

Special Collection

  • WWI* (1914-18) and WWII** (1933-45) covering the Rise of Hitler to the Fall of Churchill (1933-45). These include wartime editions of the Daily Express, Sunday Express, Kent Messenger, Fascist Week, Action! Blackshirt, Yorkshire Post, Daily Worker, Church Times and one year of the Kentish Express

FE Institutions may select either the All Inclusive Complete package and/or Special Collection.

Daily Mirror - Important information for existing subscribers

With effect from July 2019, UK Press Online are unable to sell licences to the Daily Mirror for new subscribers. Any existing licences to the Daily Mirror will be honoured and fulfilled until July 2023. Digitorial Ltd, the providers of UKPressOnline have the following statement about subscriptions to the Daily Mirror Archive:

During the academic year 2018-19, Reach PLC cancelled the contract for UKPressOnline to supply the online Daily Mirror Archive. However, UKPressOnline will continue to fulfil all existing contracts. This means that all existing Mirror subscribers will continue to have access as usual to the Daily Mirror until 31 July 2023. Other subscriptions are unaffected by this change.

Holders of a Perpetual Licence will continue to receive free hosting and updates until 31 July 2023 after which, Perpetual Licencees may self-host or an annual Hosting fee may be charged.

Authentication

Authentication is via the UK Access Management Federation, IP address range, proxy services, username and password and referral URL with card number. WAYFless access is available.

UKPressOnline is an e-newspaper (in pdf format) including full-text resource.

Personalisation

Institutions can include their logos or include a personalised message by request

Users can personalise the online resource with their own saved searches via the bookshelf and search history, tags or keywords. These services require the user to register a personal (sub-user) account.

Search options

  • Simple search: keywords with wildcards
  • Advanced search: boolean operatives, date range, specific date, front page only or search complete editions

Usage statistics

UKPressOnline is not yet COUNTER compliant but does provide a similar level of usage statistics to nominated users. Statistics are available on-screen or may be downloaded in CSV file-format:

  • Simple reporting: user activity report
  • Download report: detailed
  • Full report: descriptive and detailed
