  • Start: 1 Aug 2017
    Expiry: 31 Jul 2020
  • Description:

The Historical Texts and Journal Archives services aggregate and deliver many of the book and journal archives that Jisc and Jisc Collections have licensed on behalf of the education community, including EEBO and ECCO, as well as journals from Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Institute of Physics and several others, alongside open access collections such as the UK Medical Heritage Library. These two platforms offer users a world-class collection of hundreds thousands of journals and historical texts, delivered through high-quality platforms, and they support library budgets and planning with consistent and clear pricing.

Product overview

Jisc e-collections is a cost-effective service that integrates access to a range of high quality collections managed by the community, for the community and for the long term. Jisc has purchased over £15 million worth of high quality journal, book and multimedia content on behalf of our members.

We have developed our Journal Archives and Historical Texts services to consolidate and host the collections we have licensed on your behalf. This enables all member institutions to offer their users a world-class collection, a virtual library of thousands of journals and historical books.

Journal Archives

More than 3.75 million articles from the archives of over 600 journals of major publishers and societies - Brill, Institution of Civil Engineers, Institute of Physics, ProQuest, Oxford University Press and Royal Society of Chemistry. The service also contains the recently digitised "Spare Rib" magazine, available open access.

Historical Texts

The full-text of over 350,000 texts published in Great Britain from 1475-1900, including Early English Books Online (EEBO), Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO) and 65,000 texts from the British Library 19th Century collection. An additional collection, comprising more than 66,000 newly digitised texts from the UK Medical Heritage Library consortium, was made available in 2016 and is available open access.

Each platform provides consistency and enables cross-searching across multiple collections. This makes it easier for users to find and use valuable content and helps to further integrate resource use in teaching, learning and research. The functionality of the services will continue to evolve in response to feedback and new technologies, ensuring that they remain fit for purpose in the long term.

The access fee covers access to both platforms and is pro-rated.
